Work of the Council of Regions
Objectives (2003)
Components of the plan
1. Regional Teams
The bishop will appoint a Regional Team in each deanery, consisting of a
Regional Facilitator (a lay person) and a Regional Dean (a professionally
trained priest). This team will work closely together in focusing on regional
needs.
Duties of a Regional Team
The positions of Regional Dean and Regional Facilitator are ones of 'oversight'.
There is no expectation the Team will do all the work but will work with other appropriate
people, both lay and clergy, to ensure that decisions are made
and the necessary work is accomplished.
Part of this will happen at regular Regional Meetings.
They will provide oversight to the region in the following areas:
Training - helping the region identify training needs and seeing that these needs are met
Supervision - making sure ongoing supervision of locally ordained priests and ministry teams is in place
Communication - ensuring that an effective communication mechanism exists between parishes in the region. One way this will happen is with the appointment of a Communications Coordinator in each parish.
Resource Sharing - developing an inventory of resources available for use in each region.
Sacramental Ministry - ensuring that all congregations are continuing to receive adequate sacramental ministry
Planning for the Future - developing a plan for ongoing ministry in their region.
2. Regional Meetings
The purpose of these meetings will be to provide the opportunity for
deaneries to experience fellowship, encouragement, support, and resource
sharing, as they develop a plan for ongoing ministry in their region.
Part of this work will be to develop a regional Profile.
All are welcome, however, all clergy, Church wardens, and Lay Synod
delegates are expected to attend these meetings.
3. Bishop's Council of Regions
This will be a broad/extensive, lay/ordained consultation which will
ensure effective communication and strengthen mutual understanding and
working relationships among regions, and between regions and the Bishop.
This group does not have any legislative authority and is therefore free
to dream and plan for our future ministry and mission together.
The Bishop's Council of Regions is attended by the Regional Teams, the Archdeacons, the Bishop, the Dean, and the Executive Officer.
Looking to our Future
Trusting that God is leading us; continuing in prayer;
intentionally strengthening our relationship with God both individually
and in our faith communities, we will:
