The Synod was called to order by the Metropolitan, The Most Rev. John Clarke (Chair).


Appointment of Officers:
a)      Secretary:              Rev. Winna Martin
b)      Clerical Secretary: Canon Blair Dixon
         Lay Secretary:       Ms. Arleen Champion
c)      Announcement of Members of the Credentials Committee (members asked to stand):
         Mr. Jim Melville (Chair), Rev. Carol Adamson, Rev. Cheryl Johnson, Ms. Shauna Brown
d)     Appointment of Scrutineers:
        Clergy Voting: Rev. Betty Bradley, Archdeacon Rob Hardwick, Ms. Donna Evans
        Lay Voting:     Rev. Cal Macfarlane, Ms. Sheilagh Garrett, Mr. Ron Hilton

Calling of the Roll:
The Clerical Secretary, Canon Blair Dixon, calls the Clergy Roll:
     57 clergy are eligible; and of those 46 are present and registered as follows:
          (names are read, each member answered when name called)
The Lay Secretary, Ms. Arleen Champion, calls the Lay Roll:
     106 lay are eligible; and of those 101 are present and registered as follows:
          (names are read, each member answered when name called)

Credentials Committee:
Motion to accept the Rolls.

Jim Melville/Carol Adamson: That the Clergy and Lay Rolls as presented be accepted by Synod. Carried


Announcement of a Quorum:
A quorum necessary to convene the Synod consists of 60% of the clergy and 60% of the lay.
In the order of Clergy - 57 are eligible and 46 are present
In the order of Lay - 106 are eligible and 101 are present

We have a Quorum.


Procedural Questions:
Discussion on Voting Process:

       Each Member of Synod has received a package of Ballot Forms.

Report of the Diocesan Search Committee (Canon William Lourens, Chair):
Report was circulated in Registration Packages. There are no further nominations.

William Lourens/Basil Pogue: That the final report of the Search Committee be received. Carried

William Lourens/Basil Pogue: That the following be nominated for election as Eleventh Bishop of Qu'Appelle: The Venerable Peter Armstrong, The Venerable Helena-Rose Houldcroft, The Very Reverend Gregory Kerr-Wilson, The Very Reverend James Merrett, The Reverend Cheryl Toth, The Very Reverend Robin Walker.      Carried

Eucharist:
Synod adjourns for the celebration of the Eucharist.

Distribution of the Ballots.

(Jim Melville, Chair): Since the Last Roll the following have registered in the Order of Clergy: Rev. James Buenting, Rev. Michael Jackson; and the following have registered in the Order of Lay: Ms. Blanche Johnson, Mr. Paul Hodson

The Archbishop thanked Dean Merrett for his graciousness and for allowing his name to stand; thanked the Credentials Committee and Scrutineers; thanked the Executive Officer, Canon Marilyn Dean and the Diocesan Secretary, Rev. Winna Martin.
The Archbishop also thanked all those who had allowed their names to stand.


Blair Dixon/Janet Neubauer:         That this 72nd Synod of the Diocese of Qu'Appelle extend to Gregory Kerr-Wilson, our Bishop Elect, warmest good wishes on his election and our assurance that we will work for and with him as our Eleventh Bishop of Qu'Appelle.
