MINISTRY TRAINING WORKSHOPS
We have a long history in this diocese of providing opportunity for people to grow in their faith and in their understanding of what it means to be part of the God's church. In recent years a number of training workshops have been offered. We have been blessed with gifted presenters from within the diocese and from the College of Emmanuel and St. Chad.
These sessions are open to anyone wishing to develop knowledge and skills in lay leadership. Those on the journey toward local ordination as a deacon or priest, and all who have been locally ordained are required to attend these.
Since our last Synod the following workshops have been held:
Conflict Management - Dr Walter Deller
Youth Ministry - Shawn Branch
Biblical Authority - The Rev Canon William Christensen
Genesis - Dr. Walter Deller
Living in the Sacramental Church - Dr. William Harrison
Living the Covenant - Archbishop Andrew Hutchison
Covenant Echoes and the Shape of Biblical Faith - Dr Walter Deller
Appreciative Inquiry - Rev Dr Rob Voyle
Biblical Wisdom Traditions - Dr Walter Deller
Pastoral Care Session 1 - The Rev Dr Trish McCarthy
Pastoral Care Session 2 - the Rev Dr. Trish McCarthy
Those who attended the training workshops in the past were encouraged to attend the
ELCIC/Anglican National Worship Conference Making All Things New
In addition two, five day Summer School Sessions were held at St. Michael's Retreat Centre.
July 2004 - Facilitator: The Very Rev. James Merrett,
July 2005 - Facilitator: The Very Rev. James Merrett,
July 2006 former Summer School students organized their own retreat when they discovered
there would not be a Summer School.
This is a great testimony to the importance of this time together!
Those in the ordination stream are required to have basic training in the study of Old and New Testament,
Church History, and modern Theologians. The workshops build upon this basic training and provide
for more specific sessions such as preaching, leading worship, pastoral care, congregational life,
ministry with children and youth..
A Ministry Task Force was struck and out of their work a 'basic' or 'core' program was suggested
as well as themes and topics for continuing education opportunities.
The Education for Ministry Report and the Certificate in Christian Studies Report
describe two 'basic' training opportunities.
