DIOCESE OF QU'APPELLE
The 73rd Synod of the Diocese of Qu'Appelle
Reports
QU'APPELLE DIOCESAN HOUSING COMPANY
Qu'Appelle House is entering its 43rd year of providing quality care for level II residents which
include the physically or emotionally frail elderly, the mobile cognitively impaired, those without
family or support and those who require 24 hour supervision. We are licensed to provide care to 34
level II residents and we also provide "assisted living services" to 23 residents in our rental units.
The assisted living program is designed to keep elderly persons living independently as long and
possible. We continue to upgrade our facilities on an ongoing basis including painting, decorating,
replacing all of our windows, re-doing the roof and extending the rear parking lot. We have been very
fortunate to have a loyal and dedicated staff under the very capable direction of Diane Serban, R.N.,
our Director of Care/Administrator. Our total complement at present is 30 persons, many of whom have
been with us over 20 or 25 years and have made a very significant contribution to the well being of
our residents.
Respectfully submitted,

ST. MICHAEL'S RETREAT
AND MINISTRIES INC.
We have just completed the second year of a formal lease agreement between the Franciscans as landlord
and St. Michael's Retreat and Ministries Inc. - a partnership of the Franciscans, the Anglican Diocese
of Qu'Appelle, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese
of Regina. Under the new agreement, an eight member board, two representatives of each partner,
oversees the mission of St. Michael's. Working at St. Michael's is a positive experience for all
concerned; there is very little staff turnover. We are beginning to plan for future changes, especially
those concerning our aging Franciscans, whose ministry of prayer and hospitality gives the Retreat
Centre its unique character.
We have implemented an ongoing plan of upkeep and replacement. Thanks to an anonymous donor,
all 65 of our old windows have been replaced with energy efficient windows and the roof has been re-done.
St. Michael's continues to operate in the black, thanks to many generous benefactors, contributed services
and fund-raising events. Thanks be to God and to all who support St. Michael's Retreat and Ministries Inc.
It is a privilege to be part of this ministry.
Respectfully submitted,
Douglas R. Osborne, C.A.
